INDIVIDUAL LEANING PLAN

Within the first week of enrollment in Oregon Family School, your student’s teacher will contact you to schedule an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) Conference. In this meeting, together with your Instructional Coordinator, you will plan out the academic goals for the year for your student and determine what curriculum you will be using at home in the areas of language arts, math, social studies, and science. If you need help with choosing curriculum for any of these content areas, your student’s teacher will help guide you to effective curricular choices, and other resources to help you oversee instruction for your child at home. The ILP is a crucial, yet flexible document that insures that OFS is carrying out its mission to partner with parents to provide students with the best possible guidance and support.

CURRICULUM ALLOTMENTS

Each student receives an allotment fund of $800 per year, divided into $400 per semester (you will receive $200 for the first semester if you enroll after Thanksgiving). All curriculum and materials purchased by the school and used for school purposes may not be faith-based, and must be secular. Enrichment activities that are instructional may be paid for using allotment funds. Allotment funds may not be used for planners, other parent resources that do not directly correspond to instruction, or general school supplies. Allotment funds may not be used to purchase musical or sports equipment or pay for recreational activities that are not instructional. The purchase of all books and curriculum must support your child’s Individualized Learning Plan.

Curriculum choices are made at the initial ILP conference with your child’s IC. If curriculum is chosen that is not one of the free offerings, an order will be made on your behalf by your classroom teacher and Tech Coordinator. The cost of the curriculum will be deducted from your allotment funds. After the initial curriculum ordering, if you purchase either enrichment classes or additional curriculum and would like to be reimbursed from allotment funds, reimbursement forms are available at our front desk and must be completely filled out and accompanied by a detailed receipt or proof of payment. The completed request form and receipt must be turned in to the Office Manager within a reasonable time period, and purchases must support the student’s ILP. Purchases that do not support the student’s ILP will not be reimbursed. Reimbursement checks are issued monthly.

FRIDAY ENRICHMENTS

OFS offers an elective enrichment program on Fridays. A variety of classes are available for all ages, covering a broad range of content in the arts, second languages, technology, trades, and academics. Enrichment classes are taught by contracted community vendors who are specialists or professionals in their fields. Please contact the Receptionist and Enrichment Coordinator at the front desk for additional information and pick up a schedule of enrichment sessions, catalog of classes offered, and registration instructions.

VIRTUAL STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

Here are the expectations for becoming a fully virtual student at Oregon Family School.

Work Samples
  • The family will provide weekly work samples in five different areas:  math, science, social studies, language arts, and physical education.
  • Most families choose to submit these samples electronically on Google Classroom, but there is flexibility with that.
Parent-Teacher Communication
  • In addition to work samples, the parent and teacher will communicate about the student’s education once a week. This communication should take place on a different day of the week than the day the work samples are submitted.
  • The parent may choose the method of parent-teacher communication. The most popular options are email, Voxer, or a phone call.
Progress Monitoring
  • In order to receive funding for our school, OFS is required to monitor the educational progress of each student.  Work samples provide one method of tracking growth.  Also, the teacher will administer in-house reading and math assessments three times per year.  The purpose of these assessments are simply to inform the educator and parent as to whether the chosen curriculum is meeting the child’s educational needs. The assessment results are not shared with the state.
  • If a student is not making progress in a subject area, then the parent and the teacher will discuss alternative ways to meet the child’s needs. The parent always has the right to accept or refuse the services offered by the school.
