Oregon Family School (OFS) began out of a desire from home-based school families to have support from a licensed teacher, resources for their child’s education, and opportunities for their students to interact with peers.

OFS started its first official school year in 2018 serving grades K-12. OFS is classified by the state of Oregon as a focus virtual-charter school and is sponsored by Harney County School District #4. Our unique model immediately began meeting a need in the homeschool community of Central Oregon and beyond. This year, OFS will serve about 800 students.

OFS provides a unique tuition-free learning environment where parents must actively participate in the academic development of their children. The programs are provided at no cost to our families. State education funds are used to provide curriculum, teachers, support staff, technology, and academic accountability.

OUR VISION

To assure the healthy and whole development of every child so that each has the knowledge, skills, and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world.

OUR MISSION

Partnering with parents to provide a rich, innovative, and effective home-based education that nurtures academic success and personal growth for all students.

The engine that drives our mission is the commitment to build and sustain strong relationships among stakeholders: students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the Board of Directors. It is through these connections that OFS is able to create an educational atmosphere where students and families are valued and parents are guided toward the best resources, methods, and materials for their children so that they thrive both personally and academically.

ABOUT VIRTUAL CHARTER SCHOOLS

A focus virtual charter school offers a systematic program of virtual instruction, but includes some regularly scheduled in-person meetings that include students and teachers as part of the instructional program.

Students enrolled in OFS are public school students, subject to Oregon Administrative Rules for Public Charter Schools. As such, students may not be enrolled at another public school simultaneously, or registered with an Educational Service District as homeschooled students. We are happy to partner with local schools, however, so please ask about these options at your enrollment meeting.
